Venus Retrograde in Scorpio and Libra (October 3 – November 13, 2026): Dates to the Minute, Shadow Periods, and Whether It Touches Your Chart
Venus stations retrograde at 8°29′ Scorpio on October 3, 2026 and turns direct at 22°51′ Libra on November 13/14. Every date computed to the minute, the Mercury overlap, the 8-year pattern, a rising-sign guide, and a free calculator that tells you if this one hits your chart.
The short version
- Venus is retrograde from October 3 to November 13/14, 2026: it stops at 8°29′ Scorpio (Oct 3, 07:37 UTC — 3:37 AM in New York), slides back into Libra on October 25, and turns direct at 22°51′ Libra (Nov 14, 00:24 UTC — which is still November 13 anywhere in the Americas).
- The full cycle is longer than the 42 retrograde days: the pre-shadow started August 31 and the post-shadow ends December 15.
- Mercury goes retrograde in Scorpio on October 24 and turns direct on the same day Venus does. Between October 24 and November 13, both are backwards in the same sign.
- If your Sun, Venus or any planet sits between 22° Libra and 9° Scorpio (or squares/opposes that stretch), this cycle is personal. The calculator below checks it in five seconds, and it also tells you whether you were born with Venus retrograde.
- Same story, eight years ago: October 5 – November 16, 2018. Whatever came up then is the best preview you will get.
Five days from now, Venus stops.
Not literally, of course. Venus keeps circling the Sun at the same 35 kilometres a second it always has. But seen from Earth, on the morning of October 3 it will hang at 8°29′ of Scorpio, hesitate for a day or so, and then start drifting backwards against the stars. It does this every 19 months or so, for about six weeks, and every time it happens a certain kind of email arrives: my ex texted me, is this the retrograde?
Sometimes it is. Mostly it is just your ex. But there is a real structure to a Venus retrograde, with real dates, and most of what you will read about this one is either vague ("a time to reflect on love") or subtly wrong (we found three different dates for Venus's return to Libra in the first page of search results, and only one of them is right). So we did what we did for the Saturn return guide: we computed everything ourselves from the JPL planetary elements, checked the numbers against the published ephemeris, and wrote down what actually happens, hour by hour where it matters.
Here is the whole cycle, then what it means, then a calculator that tells you whether any of it lands on your chart.

The complete timeline
Two things to know before you read the table. First, "the retrograde" is the middle of a longer story: Venus first crosses the degree it will later return to on August 31 (the pre-retrograde shadow), and it does not clear the degree where it turned around until December 15 (the post-retrograde shadow). The retrograde proper is 42 days; the whole loop is 106. Second, times matter for the stations because they fall near midnight. Venus turns direct at 00:24 UTC on November 14, which is 7:24 PM on November 13 in New York and 4:24 PM in Los Angeles. If a site tells you "November 14" it is using UTC or European time; if it says "November 13" it is American. Both are right.

Computed from the JPL/Standish planetary elements; station degrees agree with the published ephemeris to within one arcminute. Station times are inherently fuzzy (Venus is moving a few arcseconds an hour at that point), so treat them as ±30 minutes. Lunations are from a truncated Meeus lunar theory and are good to a few minutes.
Before this one: March 2 – April 13, 2025 (UTC), in Aries and Pisces. After it: May 10 – June 22, 2028, entirely in Gemini. If you are reading this in 2027 and wondering whether Venus is retrograde: no, it isn't. Not until 2028.
Does this retrograde touch your chart? (and were you born with Venus retrograde?)
Enter your birth date. The time and time zone only matter if you were born within a few hours of Venus changing sign or direction, so don't worry if you don't know them. Nothing is stored, nothing is emailed.
What it checks: your natal Venus (position, direct or retrograde, and whether it was stationary), your natal Mercury, and whether any planet from the Sun to Pluto sits inside the 2026 retrograde zone — 22°51′ Libra to 8°29′ Scorpio — or squares or opposes it, with a 2° orb. For every contact it gives you the exact dates Venus crosses that degree. The Moon and Ascendant need an exact birth time and place, so they are left out rather than guessed.
What a Venus retrograde actually is
Venus orbits inside Earth's orbit, faster than we do. Every 584 days it laps us on the inside, and for about six weeks around that overtaking moment it appears to move backwards against the zodiac, the same way a car you are passing on the motorway seems to slide backwards in your window. Halfway through the retrograde, Venus passes directly between the Earth and the Sun. Astronomers call that the inferior conjunction; astrologers sometimes call it the "new Venus," because it is functionally a new moon of the Venus cycle. This year it happens on October 24 at 03:32 UTC, at 0°44′ Scorpio, and it is the hinge of the whole affair.
Venus is retrograde about 7% of the time, which makes it the rarest retrograde of the visible planets (Mercury manages 18%). It also has the most beautiful geometry: five retrogrades every eight years, spaced almost exactly 72° apart around the zodiac, so that if you plot the inferior conjunctions you get a five-pointed star. Each point of the star repeats every eight years, drifting backwards by about two and a third degrees. That is why this retrograde, at 8° Scorpio, is the direct descendant of October 2018 (10° Scorpio), October 2010 (13°), October 2002 (15°) and October 1994 (18°). We will come back to that, because it is the single most useful fact in this article.
What does it mean? The traditional reading is simple enough. Venus governs what we are drawn to: partners, friends, money, pleasure, beauty, the things we buy and the things we value. When Venus is direct, we reach for those things. When Venus is retrograde, we look back at them. Old relationships come up for review, sometimes literally, in the form of a message from someone you had filed away. Purchases get reconsidered. Tastes change and then change back. The stuff you were sure you wanted in September looks different by mid-November, and in December, with Venus moving forward again, you find out which version was true.
That is the honest description. It is not a curse, not a reason to cancel your wedding, and not the reason your hair appointment went badly. It is a six-week window in which Venus-flavoured decisions are more likely to be revised later than usual. Plan accordingly, which mostly means: review now, decide later.
Why Scorpio-then-Libra changes the tone
Every Venus retrograde has the same skeleton, but the signs give it a personality, and this one has two.
It begins in Scorpio, which is one of the two signs where Venus is traditionally in detriment: the sign opposite one of the signs it rules (Taurus), where its usual tools don't work well. Venus wants ease, balance and a bit of charm; Scorpio wants the truth, and the truth is rarely charming. From October 3 to October 25, Venus retrograde in Scorpio is Venus without its social filter. The themes are the deep-end ones: jealousy, trust, sex, secrets, shared money, the relationships you never fully ended. If you have a conversation you have been avoiding for two years, this is the fortnight it tends to have itself.
Then, on October 25, Venus backs into Libra, its own sign, where it is at home, and stays there through the direct station on November 13/14 and into December. The tone shifts from excavation to negotiation. What was dug up in Scorpio gets weighed in Libra: is this fair, is this balanced, do I actually want to rebuild this or just re-litigate it? Venus stationing direct in its own sign is about the gentlest ending a retrograde can have. The last stretch of this cycle, Nov 13 to Dec 15, is genuinely good for repairing things, on the condition that you spent October finding out what was broken.
The Mercury overlap
This is the part that will make the last three weeks of the cycle feel louder than the first three. Mercury enters its own retrograde zone on October 4, one day after Venus stations, and turns retrograde at 20°58′ Scorpio on October 24, just four hours after the Sun–Venus conjunction. From then until November 13 both planets are moving backwards through Scorpio at the same time. Mercury turns direct at 5°01′ Scorpio at 15:51 UTC on November 13; Venus follows eight and a half hours later. In American time zones, both stations land on the same calendar day.
Mercury retrograde is about how we exchange information: messages, contracts, travel, the mechanics of talking. Venus retrograde is about what we want. Put them together in Scorpio and you get a period when the conversations that surface are exactly the ones about who owes whom, who said what in 2018, and whether the arrangement you have (romantic, financial, professional) is the one you would choose today. Expect misfires: the text sent to the wrong person, the settlement figure that gets re-quoted, the old partner who resurfaces on precisely the wrong evening.
The practical advice is not complicated. From October 24 to November 13, treat every important Venus decision (moving in, breaking up, buying, hiring, signing) as a draft. Draft it, sleep on it, and finalise it after the 14th, ideally after Mercury clears its shadow on November 30. If you cannot wait, read everything twice and keep receipts.
The pressure points
Not every day of a retrograde is equal. These are the ones with something extra attached.
October 3: the station, plus Mars opposite Pluto
Venus stops at 8°29′ Scorpio in the small hours (UTC). About three hours later Mars, at 3° Leo, opposes Pluto at 3° Aquarius. A stationing planet is astrologically loud on its own; a Mars–Pluto opposition on the same morning adds a temper. This is the day of the cycle most likely to produce an ultimatum you will want to withdraw. Don't issue one. If someone hands you one, you are allowed to answer next week.
October 6–7: Mercury meets retrograde Venus
At 8°13′ Scorpio, still within a quarter-degree of the station. The classic "we need to talk" transit. Also the classic "an ex explains themselves" transit. Listen more than you speak; you will have a clearer view of the same conversation in November.
October 10: Venus square Mars, and a New Moon in Libra
Venus at 7°20′ Scorpio, Mars at 7°20′ Leo. Wanting and pushing pull in different directions: attraction with an edge, or a quarrel that is secretly about desire. The Libra New Moon earlier the same day is the natural moment to set an intention for the relationship you actually want, rather than the one you are arguing about.
October 20: the middle Venus–Pluto square
The second of three exact squares between Venus and Pluto at about 3° Scorpio/Aquarius (the first was September 15, the third comes December 9). Three passes means this is a theme, not an event: power, control, obsession, the money nobody talks about. The retrograde pass in the middle is when it is most visible.
October 23–24: the inferior conjunction
Venus disappears into the Sun's glare at 0°44′ Scorpio, invisible for a few days, then re-emerges before dawn as the morning star in early November. The old cultures made a great deal of this; it is the death-and-rebirth beat of the Venus cycle. In lived terms, it is usually when a situation that has been murky since the start of the month becomes clear. Not resolved. Clear. Write down what you know on October 24; it is the most reliable data point you will collect all autumn. Mercury stations retrograde four hours later, which is why the clarity may not immediately translate into a clean conversation.
November 4: Venus sextile Jupiter
The easiest day of the cycle, and a decent day for the generous gesture, the apology, the favourable renegotiation. Retrograde Venus at 24°44′ Libra to Jupiter in Leo. If there is one date to schedule the difficult-but-necessary lunch, this is it.
November 13/14: the double station
Mercury direct at 10:51 AM Eastern, Venus direct at 7:24 PM Eastern (00:24 UTC on the 14th). Station days are strange: things feel decided and then wobble. Give it 48 hours. The retrograde is over on the 14th, but the shadow isn't, and the practical world catches up over the next month.
The eight-year rule
Here is the most useful thing you can do with this article, and it takes ten minutes. Because Venus retrogrades repeat every eight years at almost the same degrees, the 2026 cycle is a sequel. Same theatre, same seats, two degrees to the left. So go back and look:
| Cycle | Retrograde | From → to | Ask yourself |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Oct 3 – Nov 14 (UTC) | 8°29′ Scorpio → 22°51′ Libra | — |
| 2018 | Oct 5 – Nov 16 | 10°51′ Scorpio → 25°14′ Libra | Who was in your life in October–November 2018? What did you decide about money that autumn? Did it hold? |
| 2010 | Oct 8 – Nov 18 | 13°13′ Scorpio → 27°38′ Libra | Same questions. Notice whether the 2018 and 2010 stories rhyme. |
| 2002 | Oct 10 – Nov 21 | 15°36′ Scorpio → 0°03′ Scorpio | If you were an adult: a relationship reassessed? A purchase regretted or vindicated? |
| 1994 | Oct 13 – Nov 23 | 17°59′ Scorpio → 2°28′ Scorpio | If you were born in this window, your natal Venus is retrograde in Scorpio: see the calculator and the section below. |
| 2034 | Sep 30 – Nov 11 | 6°07′ Scorpio → 20°27′ Libra | The next episode. |
People are often startled by how literal this gets. The person who reappears in October 2026 is, more often than chance allows, someone connected to autumn 2018. The house purchase reconsidered this year rhymes with a lease signed then. You do not have to believe in a mechanism to use the pattern: your own life from eight years ago is a better forecast than anything a stranger can write about your Sun sign, ours included.
And if you were born in October–November of 1994, 2002, 2010 or 2018 (or 1986, 1978, 1970, 1962: the family goes back a long way), transiting Venus will pass over or very near your natal Venus this cycle, retrograde, the way it was when you were born. Astrologers treat that as a Venus return with the volume turned up. The calculator will show you the exact dates.
Your rising sign: the two houses being audited
Everyone gets the same sky; the difference is where it lands in your chart. Venus stations retrograde in early Scorpio, backs into late Libra, and turns direct there. In whole-sign houses that is two consecutive houses, and you can read them as a sentence: the first house is where the question comes up, the second is where it gets settled. If you don't know your rising sign, use your Sun sign for a rougher version; the calculator above will do the mapping for you.
| Rising sign | Oct 3–25: retrograde in Scorpio, your… | Oct 25 – Dec 4: retrograde/direct in Libra, your… | The sentence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 8th house — shared money, debt, intimacy | 7th house — partnership | Who owes what, and whether the partnership itself is fair. |
| Taurus | 7th house — partnership | 6th house — work, routine, health | A relationship question that ends up being about your daily life and workload. |
| Gemini | 6th house — work, colleagues, habits | 5th house — romance, children, creativity | Job frustration that turns out to be a pleasure deficit. |
| Cancer | 5th house — romance, creative work | 4th house — home, family | An old flame or an old project, and what home is supposed to feel like. |
| Leo | 4th house — home, parents, property | 3rd house — siblings, neighbours, conversation | Family history resurfacing through a conversation you keep having. |
| Virgo | 3rd house — communication, short trips | 2nd house — money, self-worth | Something said (or unsaid) that comes down to what you think you are worth. |
| Libra | 2nd house — income, possessions, values | 1st house — you | Venus is your ruler: a money review that becomes a full personal rebrand by November. The direct station is on your Ascendant sign. |
| Scorpio | 1st house — identity, body, appearance | 12th house — private life, endings, rest | The station is in your sign: a very visible reassessment that ends in privacy and a quiet closing of a door. |
| Sagittarius | 12th house — the hidden, the unfinished | 11th house — friends, groups, hopes | A private feeling about someone in your circle that eventually becomes a friendship conversation. |
| Capricorn | 11th house — friends, networks | 10th house — career, reputation | A contact from the past with implications for your professional standing. |
| Aquarius | 10th house — career, public image | 9th house — travel, study, belief | A career reassessment that becomes a question of what you actually believe in (and where). |
| Pisces | 9th house — travel, education, publishing | 8th house — shared resources, intimacy | A plan to go somewhere or learn something, complicated by joint finances or a deep bond. |
Two special cases. Libra and Taurus risings are ruled by Venus, so a Venus retrograde is always a bit of a personal weather event for them, regardless of houses. And Scorpio risings get the station in the first house: October 3 is a day to keep a low profile, because whatever you present to the world that week will be reconsidered, by you, within the month.
What to do, what to put off, and the questions everyone asks
We are not fans of fear-based astrology. Venus retrograde happens for six weeks every year and a half; people fall in love, get married, buy houses and launch businesses during it, and plenty of them are fine. The point of knowing the dates is not to hide under a blanket. It is to know which decisions are being made with a temporarily unreliable instrument, and to build in a review.
Good uses of a Venus retrograde
- Audit subscriptions, debts, joint accounts, prices you charge. Scorpio retrograde is the best financial spring-clean of the year.
- Have the delayed conversation, on a day that is not October 3.
- Reconnect with people you lost touch with for no good reason. Friends, not just exes.
- Revisit an abandoned creative project; retrograde Venus is unusually good at finishing things.
- Renegotiate an existing contract rather than sign a new one.
- Write down what you want, on October 24, and read it on November 14.
Things worth a second look before you commit
- Big-ticket aesthetic purchases: cars, furniture, art, the expensive haircut. Not forbidden. Just sleep on it.
- Getting back together. The retrograde is excellent at making the past look better than it was. Wait until December and see if you still want to.
- Cosmetic procedures you can't undo, if the date is flexible.
- Launching something whose success depends on people liking it (a brand, a product, a dating profile). Audiences are fickle right now.
The questions we actually get
Can I get married during Venus retrograde? If the date is set and the marriage is solid, yes, obviously; nobody's relationship has ever been decided by an astrological table. If you are choosing a date freely, most electional astrologers would nudge you to after November 14, and better still after December 15. The concern isn't disaster, it's revision: a retrograde Venus wedding chart carries a "we'll revisit the terms" flavour. Some couples are perfectly happy with that.
Should I break up now or wait? If you have been trying to leave for a year, the retrograde tends to supply the clarity; go. If the urge to leave appeared on October 4 out of nowhere, that is the transit talking, and it will still be there in December if it is real.
Is it a bad time to buy a house? It is a good time to inspect one very carefully. Venus retrograde purchases are famous for "I didn't notice that" problems. Get the survey. Read the covenant. Then, if it still adds up, buy the house.
My ex messaged me. What do I do? Reply when you want to, not when the notification arrives. An honest conversation with an ex during a Venus retrograde can be genuinely healing; the trap is mistaking nostalgia for information. Ask yourself what is different now, specifically. If the answer is "nothing, but I miss them," you have your answer.
Will I feel it if nothing in my chart is hit? You will feel the general weather (everyone does; Venus rules everyone's money and relationships), but not the personal storm. The people who write to us about a life-altering Venus retrograde almost always have a planet within two degrees of the station points. That is what the calculator is for.
Born with Venus retrograde
About one person in fourteen was born while Venus was retrograde. If the calculator just told you that you are one of them, here is the reading astrologers have converged on over the years, stripped of the melodrama that usually comes with it.
Venus retrograde in the birth chart tends to turn the Venus function inward. You feel things about people at least as strongly as anyone else; you are simply slower to show it, slower to trust it, and much slower to get over it when it ends. Small talk is effortful. Superficial affection reads as fake to you, which makes you excellent at spotting it and occasionally lonely in rooms where it is the only currency. Your taste is idiosyncratic and it is yours. Money and love can get tangled (the classic patterns are buying affection, undercharging for your work, or keeping a financial life partly private). None of this is a defect. It is a Venus that does its work in private, and the people who wait long enough to see it usually consider themselves lucky.
Transiting Venus retrogrades are usually easier on you than on the people around you. You have been running this software your whole life; six weeks of everyone else running it is, if anything, a relief.
If your natal Venus is in Scorpio or late Libra and retrograde (born mid-October to late November of 1962, 1970, 1978, 1986, 1994, 2002, 2010 or 2018), 2026 brings transiting retrograde Venus across your natal degree. That is a rare event: a Venus return that reproduces the conditions of your birth. Treat it as a chapter marker in how you love and what you value, and expect the story to run from the first pass in September to the last in December, not just the six weeks in the middle.

FAQ
When exactly is Venus retrograde in 2026?
From October 3, 2026 (station at 07:37 UTC, 3:37 AM Eastern, at 8°29′ Scorpio) to November 14, 2026 at 00:24 UTC, which is November 13 at 7:24 PM Eastern, at 22°51′ Libra. The pre-retrograde shadow began August 31 and the post-retrograde shadow ends December 15.
Is Venus retrograde on November 13 or November 14?
Both, depending on where you are. The direct station is at 00:24 UTC on November 14. Anywhere west of the UK (all of the Americas) that is still the evening of November 13. Europe, Africa and Asia see it on the 14th.
What signs is Venus retrograde in this time?
Scorpio from October 3 to October 25, then Libra from October 25 to the direct station on November 13/14. Venus stays in Libra, moving forward, until December 4, when it re-enters Scorpio.
What is the Venus retrograde shadow period?
The pre-retrograde shadow is the time between Venus first reaching the degree it will later turn direct at (22°51′ Libra on August 31) and the retrograde station. The post-retrograde shadow runs from the direct station until Venus gets back to the degree where it turned retrograde (8°29′ Scorpio on December 15). Themes tend to appear in the pre-shadow, peak in the retrograde and get finalised in the post-shadow.
Is Mercury also retrograde during this Venus retrograde?
Yes. Mercury stations retrograde at 20°58′ Scorpio on October 24, 2026 and turns direct at 5°01′ Scorpio on November 13, about eight and a half hours before Venus does. From October 24 to November 13 both planets are retrograde in Scorpio.
Which zodiac signs are most affected by Venus retrograde 2026?
By sign: Scorpio and Libra (the station signs), Taurus (ruled by Venus, and opposite Scorpio), and Aries (opposite Libra). More precisely, anyone with a planet between about 22° Libra and 9° Scorpio, or between 22° Aries and 9° Taurus, 22° Cancer and 9° Leo, or 22° Capricorn and 9° Aquarius, gets a direct hit. Use the calculator to check.
How often is Venus retrograde?
About every 18 to 19 months, for 40 to 43 days: roughly 7% of the time. Five retrogrades happen every eight years, spaced about 72° apart, and each one recurs eight years later about 2°20′ earlier in the zodiac.
Can I get married or start a relationship during Venus retrograde?
You can, and many people do. The traditional advice is that agreements made under retrograde Venus tend to be revised later, so if you are free to choose the timing, astrologers would suggest after November 14, or after December 15 to be thorough. If the date is fixed, don't lose sleep over it.
How do I know if I was born with Venus retrograde?
Enter your birth date in the calculator on this page; it computes Venus's position and speed at your birth. About 7% of people have it. In the table above, any birth date between a "stations retrograde" and "stations direct" pair qualifies.
When was the last Venus retrograde, and when is the next?
The last one ran March 2 – April 13, 2025 (UTC) in Aries and Pisces. The next after 2026 is May 10 – June 22, 2028, entirely in Gemini (19°41′ to 3°10′).
Method and sources
- All planetary positions are computed from the JPL/Standish approximate Keplerian elements (valid 1800–2050) with precession applied to give tropical longitudes of date. Validation against the published ephemeris: the October 3, 2026 station computes to 8°29′ Scorpio (published 8°29′–8°30′), the direct station to 22°51′ Libra (published 22°51′–22°52′), the 2018 station to 10°51′ Scorpio (published 10°50′), the 2023 station to 28°34′ Leo (published 28°36′).
- Lunations use a 60-term truncation of the Meeus lunar theory; the January 2026 lunations reproduce published times within two minutes.
- Station times are quoted to the minute for consistency but are physically fuzzy: Venus is nearly motionless for hours either side. Ingress and aspect times are good to about ±15 minutes.
- Houses in the rising-sign table are whole-sign. Dignities follow the traditional scheme (Venus rules Taurus and Libra, exalted in Pisces, detriment in Aries and Scorpio, fall in Virgo).
- The interpretive material draws on the standard modern literature on Venus cycles and on the traditional electional rules; where we state a percentage (7% of births with Venus retrograde, 18% with Mercury retrograde) it is the fraction of time the planet spends retrograde.
- This is astrology, not advice. Get married, buy the house, text the ex or don't, on your own judgment. We just do the maths.
